Window systems are a particularly complex component of any exterior wall systems.
Crosier Kilgour & Partners have an extensive track record in both the assessment
and design of window and curtain wall systems. In addition to the requirements
outlined in the relevant CSA A440 Standard, a holistic approach is required when
assessing or designing window systems.
Assessment Techniques Typically Include:
- A detailed review
- Smoke pencil testing
- Flood testing
Using rappelling techniques, the cost of flood testing high-rise windows becomes
a cost-effective tool to which we have used to identify and solve and multitude
of window leakage problems.
Material selection in addition to tailoring the window performance to the overall
building are inherent components of the design process. Factors such as the type
of mechanical system, wall system, and location within the plane of the wall are
all important considerations relevant to the design process.
In any window replacement design process, Crosier Kilgour & Partners generally
requires a mock-up, complete with blower door testing to confirm that the window
system meets or exceeds design expectations. The mock-up also becomes an important
component of the construction project by establishing the standard of acceptance.
