Failure/Forensic Investigation
Forensic engineering is the application of engineering science and principles to the investigation of structural failures or other performance problems. Failures, which can occur at any time during or after construction, can be as simple as the deflection or distortion of a structure in a way that impedes its long-term performance, or it can be as major as a catastrophic collapse.

A number of factors can cause structural damage, failure or even lead to devastating results:

  • Excessive loading during construction, before the building is complete and therefore, most vulnerable to damage.
  • Natural disasters and inclement weather, including wind, rain, snowstorms, tornados, floods and excessive precipitation.
  • Prevailing site conditions, such as volatile or unstable soils.
  • Destruction caused by fire that aids in determining the origin of the fire.

To help determine the potential for structure failure, Crosier Kilgour & Partners uses a wide variety of analysis methods. We are also able to investigate the cause of any failure by the sources of the problem and assess viable options to correct it in a cost-effective, yet durable manner.
