The Winnipeg Convention Centre was originally constructed in 1973. As
with many buildings built in that era, the cladding has experienced significant
deterioration as a result of a poor air barrier. Crosier Kilgour & Partners
performed an extensive investigation on the Convention Centre using Impact-Echo
technology to determine the degree and extent of building envelope deterioration.
As a result of the investigation, emergency repairs were performed on portions
of the building to stabilize the existing stone cladding until a new building
envelope could be designed.
As the prime consultants on the project, Crosier Kilgour & Partners upgraded
the air barrier and recladded the building. The project's scope included the removal
of 60,000 square feet of Tyndall stone, insulation, and old mastic, and the application
of a torch on air barrier, increased amounts of insulation, and a composite aluminium
panel designed with the pressure equalized rainscreen principle.
