New Standards
Although the new parking structures code, CSA S413 Design of Parking Structures,
has greatly improved the durability and longevity of new parkades, there are many
existing parkades designed and built before the implementation of this code. Thus,
a competent and experienced investigation methodology is required to determine
the extent of repairs required. Experience is further necessary to develop cost-effective
remediation strategies to meet owner's expectations and budget constraints.
New Technology
In addition, technology has produced a litany of products designed to enhance
parkade longevity, from membranes, coatings, or sealers to cathodic protection.
Each structural system presents unique conditions to which the investigation must
be tailored in order to obtain a realistic picture of the parkade's present condition
and corrosion potential. Technical expertise is required in order to tailor the
appropriate restoration solution to the structural system and present condition
of the parking garage.
Across Western Canada Crosier Kilgour & Partners has completed parkade
restoration projects for many different structural systems; including precast,
pretensioned structures, post-tensioned concrete structures, cast-in-place concrete,
as well as steel structures. A leader in the field of parkade restoration, we
have developed protective system evaluation techniques that can determine the
performance of a system design.
