Structural Design
Sustainability/Green Building Design
Incorporating sustainable design offers several economic and environmental advantages, including lower operating costs, occupant comfort (regulated thermal and lighting) and better indoor air quality.

The integrated design process is the basis for sustainable design. Crosier Kilgour & Partners has been fortunate to be involved in a number of integrated design processes for several successful green projects:

  • Manitoba Hydro Headquarters (downtown Winnipeg)
  • Winnipeg James Armstrong Richardson International Airport
  • Wahbung Abinoonjiiag Help Centre
  • Swan Valley Credit Union
  • Victoria General Hospital

Although the structural engineering discipline does not necessarily have a large impact on the overall sustainability of a particular architectural design, the structural discipline can contribute to the sustainability of a project by specifying recycled content in structural systems, low VOC content in materials to be used, as well as taking advantage of the thermal mass of the structural system.

The Canadian Green Building Council maintains Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) rating systems to monitor sustainable design for various definitions of projects. Crosier Kilgour & Partners is proud to have one of Manitoba’s first Structural LEED Accredited Professionals on our team.
